COPD affects both men and women and, often, symptoms are seen in people in their 40s. Through education and shared resources, the COPD Alliance is focused on providing timely, evidence-based information to clinicians to help with the recognition, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with COPD.
The most common cause of COPD is cigarette smoking.1 However, many other elements can contribute to the disease. Knowing patients' personal habits, work history, and medical history can be helpful factors in early recognition of the disease.
